Horace Oatman (265)

Horace Oatman (265) Genealogy Horace Elisha, Samuel, George, John, Johannes(), son of Elisha and Sarah (Bates) Oatman, was born in Derby, New Haven County, Connecticut, in 1805 and died 10 December 1887 at the age of 82 years.

On 5 October 1825 he married Mary "Polly" Russell, born 5 October 1805 and died 10 July 1884. The family settled in Oxford, Connecticut, where they lived during their lifetime. Horace was a joiner by trade. The 1840 census of Oxford lists the following in Horace's household: one male 5-10 (Edwin?), two males 10-15 (George and ?), one male 15-20 (Charles Russell), four males 20-30 (unknown), one male 30-40 (Horace), and one female 30-40 (Polly). It is possible the four young men aged 20-30 were relatives or co-workers. The 1850 census of Oxford listed, in addition to Horace, Mary and their two sons, Austin Hine, 19, a joiner, and Munson Hine, 26, a farmer.
