On 5 October 1825 he married Mary "Polly" Russell, born 5 October 1805 and died 10 July 1884. The family settled in Oxford, Connecticut, where they lived during their lifetime. Horace was a joiner by trade. The 1840 census of Oxford lists the following in Horace's household: one male 5-10 (Edwin?), two males 10-15 (George and ?), one male 15-20 (Charles Russell), four males 20-30 (unknown), one male 30-40 (Horace), and one female 30-40 (Polly). It is possible the four young men aged 20-30 were relatives or co-workers. The 1850 census of Oxford listed, in addition to Horace, Mary and their two sons, Austin Hine, 19, a joiner, and Munson Hine, 26, a farmer.
