Samuel Oatman (20)

Samuel (George, John, Johannes), son of George and Ruth (Wooster) Oatman, was born in Ripton, Connecticut, in 1748, and died in Arlington, Bennington County, Vermont, 28 September 1825 at the age of 77.

He married 1) Hannah, daughter of Samuel and Ann (Moss) Wooster, 12 April 1769, at Oxford, Connecticut; she was baptized 26 October 1746, and died 24 September 1791. According to an article in the New England Historical &Genealogical Register (Vol. 75, p. 185-186);

"Prior to her marriage she [Hannah Wooster] had a son by Abel Waters, viz., Abel Waters, of Oxford, b. in 1767, m. 25 Dec. 1788 Ruth Curtis of Stratford."

"Descendants of Edward Wooster" further states that Elisha Wooster (Samuel, Timothy, Edward), "bequeathed his entire estate by will to his 'nephew Abel Waters,' having previously (on 26 April 1788) given two deeds of property at Quaker's Farm [Oxford] to 'Abel Waters son of Hannah Oatman wife of Smuel Oatman.'"

Samuel married 2) at Arlington, Vermont, Susanna ________, who died 4 May 1825 at the age of 73. She is buried next to Samuel in the Arlington Cemetery.

Samuel settled at Oxford, Connecticut, where his children were born. He appears to have had a large estate and operated hotels in Oxford and nearby towns. He removed to Arlington, Vermont in later life.
