Truman Oatman (97)

Truman (Benjamin, George, John, Johannes), son of Benjamin and Bethia (Smith) Oatman, was born in Jefferson County, New York, in 1787 and died 20 March 1843 at the age of 56. He married Orra Perry, born 1790, died 22 November 1861 at the age of 71. Both are buried in State Road (Honeyville) Cemetery, Adams Center, Jefferson County, New York.

Truman served in the War of 1812. In 1810 he was living in Adams, New York, with two children under 10. Since his oldest known child was Leonard, born in 1811, there may be two other children either unaccounted for or who died young. In 1820 there were two males under 10, one male 10-15, and one male 26-44, one female under 10, one female 10-15, and one female 26-44; one person was listed in agriculture and one in manufacturing. By 1830 he was the head of a family consisting of one male child under 5, one male 5-10, one male 15-20, one male 40-50, one male 70-80 (unknown), one female 30-40, one female 50-60, and one female 80-90 (unknown). By 1850, Truman had died, and Orra and her youngest son Silas were living in the household of her daughter Lucy Chamberlain.
