He married Olive, daughter of Jonathan and Lydia (Pritchard) Lum, 31 March 1816. She was born 21 January 1797 in Connecticut and died 11 April 1885.
David and Olive were living in Oxford, New Haven County, Connecticut, in 1850, with his occupation listed as a mason. Living with them were John F. and Mary A. Brush, their daughter and son-in-law.

In the 1850 census of New Haven, CT, they are living, with their six-month-old daughter, Mary E. Oatman, in the home of Thaddeus and Almira Austin, presumably Martha's parents.
1026 Mary Ann, b. 4 Nov 1820, Great Hill, CT; d. 15 Mar 1900; m. John Frederick Brush. Mary and Frederick were living with her parents in 1850 in Oxford, CT, with Frederick 30 years old and unemployed.
