1447 Gaius E. (Leonard, Truman, Benjamin, George, John, Johannes), son of Leonard and Huldah (Barnard) Oatman, was born at Adams Center, Jefferson County, New York, 14 October 1856 and died there 21 January 1940. He is buried in Union Cemetery, Adams Center, New York.
He married: 1) 30 November 1887, Alfaretta Haven, who died 28 May 1919 at the age of 55 years; 2) 1 July 1921, Florence Puffer, who was born 13 August 1864.
The family resided at Adams Center, where Gaius was a farmer.
While his name has been variously given as both Gains and Gaius, his obituary and the cemetery records show it as Gaius.
