Halsey Oatman (1068)

Halsey (Richard, Isaac, Samuel, George, John, Johannes), son of Richard and Mary (Havens) Oatman, was born 11 July 1847 in Jefferson County, New York, and died 6 October 1917 in Adams, Jefferson County, New York. He is buried in the State Road (Honeyville) Cemetery, Adams Center, New York.

About 1872, Halsey married Hannah Rowe, who was born 27 November 1836, and died 26 July 1909. The 1900 census states she had two children born and two living at that time, indicating they had another child.

Halsey's Last Will and Testament is dated 2 January 1912, in which he names Frank Hovey as Executor, and his only legatees are a son, Eddie Oatman, his sister Anna Averill and another sister, Melissa Parker. The court papers list the following as his heirs at law: Halsey, 18; Olga, 16; Thelma, 15; Harold, 11; Austin, 10; June, 7; and Eddie, 1. These are the children of Halsey's adopted son, Edward Merrick.
