By 1880, an Arnold Oatman, whose age was given as 45, was in Jefferson, living as a boarder in the home of Maria Atwell, a widow aged 74, her divorced daughter Ruth Smith, age 45, and a grandson Oliver Atwell, age 24. Our Arnold would have been about 63, but feel it is the same person. His occupation in 1880 was "gentleman of leisure."
