What Wave Issue 16

Published in October 1988 and the first at our present Erie Avenue location. Great cover caricature of Tura Satana (from the Russ Meyer flick Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill) by Dave Clarke. This time we decided to go with a 4 song vinyl EP instead of the usual cassette (it was time for a change) and featured 4 local bands: Flying Squad, Legend Killers, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and The Mongrels. We discovered that it wasn't all that difficult to make a record and this basically started the WW record label. After all, nobody else around here was going to put out any records with our favourite local bands on them.

This ish had interviews with The Crawlin' Kingsnakes, Washington Squares, Marshmallow Overcoat, Evan Johns, Barrence Whitfield and The Dukes. Articles on another benefit (ya, we're still hurting), Key West (local hole that had AMAZING live bands like The Fuzztones, Cheepskates, Plan 9, Gruesomes and tons of others, deserves it's own web site), The Mongrols, power pop, Teenage Head, cool Canadian records part 2, Ugly Ducklings, Gruesomes, Cynics, Del Lords, Ultra 5, Sporting Bachelors, The Chessmen, The Mistreaters, Italian scene, Empty Hours, East Germany, Ray Condo and His Hardrock Goners, Workdogs, Pigshit (Gary Pig Gold's 1st article in WW), The Vindicators, Skyclad Records, Jerry Lee Lewis, Moritician's Wax (Dr. Weasle's 1st article in WW) and Glynis Wilson's 1st WW article on garage guys. A thick 58 pages of garage/rocknroll/rockabilly/surf/trash and other assorted junk. This one's still in print kids, so email us for details
