Since January of 2001, Norman has walked through the heat of the desert, icy rain, high winds and winter conditions. He was forced to turn back due to deep snow in the mountains north of Castaic, California in one of the worst winter storms in Southern California's history. He has crossed eight mountain ranges, endured many long detours and even climbed through a wilderness area to re-join Interstate 5 at the Oregon border. Truly this has become a journey of epic proportions, as one courageous man lays it all on the line to help save the abandoned, unwanted children of the world.

He has been recognized for his courage and compassion, by mayors and governors as he has traveled in the United States and Canada. Many mayors have walked with him and signed proclamations for an annual Walk of Hope Day in their communities. The media have constantly brought attention to his cause for kids.

Norman is focused on his cause with such determination that it keeps him positive and motivated even under difficult circumstances. Rarely do people like Terry Fox or Rick Hansen come around, but Norman exemplifies the same level of commitment and passion as these two great Canadians.
