Linux

I looked at using Linux as a basis for my HTPC, but after having used Mandrake 7 a few years ago and the great improvements to Mandrake 9 (I think of Mandrake 7 as equivalent to Windows 3.1 and Mandrake 9 comparable to Windows 95), I decided that Linux was still not as mature as Windows. Many of the programs needed for an HTPC were also still under development. I don't want to take anything away from the great programming done by the Linux community, but I have found that there is still a lot of tweaking needed in Linux to make it work as smoothly as Windows even though ATI is one of the few companies to support Linux TV viewing. I am using Linux on most of my computers now, but because of the stability of my HTPC, I will not be moving to Linux until a necessary hardware changed is required.
