Seether

 

 South African post grunge hit makers Seether almost melted the studio when they stopped by to record 3 songs. Volumes not heard since early Who concerts shook the building. Daryn engineered and mixed.

 
Finger 11

 

  • It girl Colbie Caillat recorded 4 tracks including her current hit Bubbly for the Live @ Orange series. Daryn engineered and mixed.

 

 

Nelly Furtado

  • In more Nelly news, her "Loose -Tour Edition"  CD was released, and she chose to include Daryn's mix of Promiscuous featuring Saukrates.  Thanks again Nelly, and congrads on all the success of the "Loose" CD.

     

 
The Trews

 

 

  • After recording most of their new album @ Orange,  The Trews returned to just about shake the roof  off the building for a Live @ Orange. A great time was had by all, and the band rocked harder than ever. Continued success with the disc! Daryn engineered and mixed

  • Justin Hines new record is mostly complete. Justin Abedin is producing, Canterbury's Jeremy Darby is engineering, and Daryn is mixing. Look for a Spring 2009 release.

 
 

Billy Talent

  • Billy Talent chose to release Daryn's mix of  Red Flag for the Bamboozled US Compilation. Other artists featured on the comp include My Chemical Romance, Killswitch Engage, and As I lay Dying.  

     

Nelly Furtado

  • In what was supposed to be a live MTV interview and a possible acoustic and vocal performance, Nelly and MTV took over Orange and recorded 4 songs, some new , some old with a 5 piece band. Always gracious, Nelly and her band made it fun. Daryn engineered.

     

Terri Clark

  • Terri Clarke stopped in Orange to record 2 songs including new single "In My Next Life" . A good time was had by all. Daryn engineered with crushing Pro Tools op Metal.

     

Skye Sweetnam

  • Skye Sweetnam  recorded vocals for 2 new tracks from her upcoming album. Tim Armstrong from Rancid produced.  The songs are to be mixed by Grammy Winner  Serban Ghenea (Dave Matthews, Liz Phair, Justin Timberlake) at his Virginia studio for an Oct release. Daryn engineered.

Amy Winehouse

  • Another Live @ Orange found Daryn engineering and mixing it girl Amy Winehouse. An incredible vocalist,  she recorded  her hit Rehab, and generally cheered on everyone else in the sessions. Good on you Amy. Continued success.

  • More Live @ Orange action had Daryn recording and mixing scrappy up and comers Ill Scarlett.

     

Joss Stone /  Annie Lennox

  • In one of the most fun  sessions in recent memory, Daryn recorded Joss Stone singing on the new Annie Lennox record "Songs of Mass Destruction". The track Sing is the first singleon Annie's new record. What a voice. The easiest gig in a long time. Let's also wish her success with her new solo disc, ironically entitled "Introducing Joss Stone".

     

K-os

  • Daryn recorded  the drums and some of the other overdubs for the K-os single  "Sunday Morning" recently. Congrads to K-os at having his album debut @ #1. 

     

Dragonette

  • Dragonette, a UK based electro pop outfit featuring Canadian expats Martina Sorbara and Dan Kurtz (formerly of the New Deal) recorded a live album @ the Mod Club. Expertly recorded by Doug McClement with the Live Wire Wire Mobile truck, Daryn mixed the album in long 3 days. Expect big things from this hook machine.

     

Johnny Hollow

  • Daryn has been producing goth/ industrial /chamber music trio Johnny Hollow along with some old and new friends. Jim Barr from Portishead is doing some programming and playing bass, Dave"Rave" Ogilvie (NIN, Marilyn Manson) is making some beats, Jeff Burroughs from the Tea Party played drums, and David Bottrill (Tool, System of a Down) is mixing the singles.

Nelly Furtado

  • Nelly Furtado returned to Orange after spending a few months writing and recording some of her new album "Loose" there. She hit the US retail charts at #1 shortly after the 1st single Promiscious hit the radio.  Nelly and the band graced us with her Live @ the Orange Lounge versions of Promiscious . Maneater, as well as fan favorite "I'm Like a Bird" Daryn recorded and mixed.

 

Melissa McClelland

  • Another old track revisited. Melissa McClelland and a few friends were doing a version of  X-mas carol "O Holy Night" for some reason we can't remember. They're so good it was recorded and mixed in about an hour, and promptly forgotten about. Well lo and behold it's going to be featured in a film that we also don't know the name of. Daryn recorded and mixed.

     

 

Paul Anka

  • In one of the most fun sessions in recent memory, Daryn tracked it "old school" (remember when everyone played in the same room , with no baffles, and just ripped it up?) with a stripped down version of Paul Anka's band from "Rock Swings" . Live drums, upright bass, piano, guitar, horns, woodwinds, keys, and Mr. Anka fronting. Enormously fun, and a simple reminder to the oldest recording proverb known to man. Get great players, put them in a room with a great singer, perform great songs, and it's the easiest engineering gig in the world. Put up the faders , pat yourself on the back, drink coffee, and enjoy the music. Paul liked the outcome so much he included the whole session on his  worldwide release of the Live version of Rock Swings DVD,  "Live @ the Montreal Jazz Festival" Daryn Recorded and mixed.

     

 

Marc Jordan

  • Someone just told us that a song Daryn mixed a long while back got nominated for a Genie for best song from a film so we thought it should go in the (old) news section. It was a beautiful song performed by Marc Jordan called Falling Forward. Nice to see it get noticed.

Jimmy Eat World

  • Daryn recorded and mixed Arizona based Jimmy Eat World for the "Live at the Orange Lounge" series. The new singles "Futures", "Pain" and fan favorite "Bleed American" were among the songs.

Amanda Stott

  • Daryn recorded the single "Homeless Heart" for Amanda's upcoming release. Producer Andreas Carlsson (Britney Spears, Bon Jovi, Celine Dion) flew in for a whirlwind tracking of the track. Assisted by "Jason Metal" Donkersgoed, and mixed by Micheal Brauer, the single is set to drop in Feb 2005.

Jack Johnson, G. Love, & Donavon Frankenreiter

  • Daryn recorded and mixed 4 songs for Hawaii-based Jack Johnson with tour mates G. Love and Donavon Frankenreiter while they were in town. Jack was so happy with the recordings he included them on  the re-release of his In Between Dreams album. Thanks Jack. It was really fun.

Jakalope

  • Vancouver based Jakalope enlisted Daryn to record some overdubs for their first single "Pretty Life". The band, featuring a who's who of industrial and hard rock, the band is led by sonic wizard Dave "Rave" Ogilvie (David Bowie, Marilyn Manson, NIN), new discovery Katie B, members of Monster Magnet, Babes in Toyland, Sloan, and is being co-produced by Trent Reznor. Daryn co-produced one song, "Light After Night". The single "Pretty Life" is currently charting at radio and in heavy rotation on Much Music.

Snow Patrol

  • Scottish upstarts Snow Patrol recently scored the opening slot on the upcoming U2 tour to crown an excellent year. Daryn recorded and mixed four songs for the Live the Orange Lounge series, Highlights include and acoustic version of the singles "Run" and "Spitting Games", and "Chocolate". Also included, a fantastic cover of The Undertones "Teenage Kicks".
