What was probably our most successful golf tournament was held on August 21st, 2006. It was held with the unbelievable generosity of the Carey family, who allowed us to hold it at their home golf course, “Ridge Meadows.” This is a beautiful 9-hole golf course that surrounds the Carey home on 20 acres.
Let it be known that this is not an easy nine holes. None of our most accomplished golfers were able to par it. Needless to say we all had a wonderful day. The Golf Gods were shining on us with a typical Alberta sunny day, which reached 30 degrees.
We had a total of 40 members attend for both the golf and the BBQ. As we mentioned in the mailer we added an amount to the cost to allow us to make a donation to the Carey's charity, “The Kids Help Phone.” During the festivities Lorne Vidler presented Anita and Frank with a check in the amount of $400.00. Added to this was a check for $250.00, presented on behalf of the “Fourteen Old Time Salesman's Association” by Jack La Brier, this years president.
There are not enough adjectives to describe the generosity of the Carey family. They turned their home over to us for our BBQ, as the recreation center clubhouse is not yet ready. Thank you is not really adequate enough to show our appreciation.
Lorne Vidler very cleverly has Anita involved in next year's tournament, which will make next year's tournament even better.
