Weynton was born in 1971, to Ivory. We're almost positive he was her first calf, since she was around 16 when she had him. The little one was bobbing at her side when researchers first discovered their family, accompanied by his grandmother C4, uncle C1, and great-uncles C7 and Booker.
When he was 4 years old, he gained a sister, Lama, and a few years later, his sibling C12 joined the family. The matriline changed a lot in the first 10 years of Weynton's life. C1 and C4 both passed away, leaving Ivory in charge, and within the next few years, C12 died and Weynton got a brother with the birth of Hunter.
When Weynton reached maturity, he sprouted quickly, growing into a beautiful, straight fin. Unfortunately it wouldn't remain unmarked for long. In 1993, Weynton received a major injury to the fin, and it began to twist and crumple. Researchers weren't sure what caused the injury, although they suspected it was either a bite from another whale, or possibly a gun shot. The fin became very distinctive, and many people expected it to collapse. Instead, the fin straightened up, and the top of it became flat and cut off (as seen in his 1999 ID photo). This interesting development taught us a lot about the long-term effects of these kind of injuries.
Meanwhile, Weynton's last sibling, Squally was born, as well as three of his nephews/nieces: Kisameet, Virago and Quadra.
Weynton spent a lot of time travelling with his uncle Booker, uncle his death in 1997. The same year, his niece/nephew Diver was born, and his brother Hunter began to sprout, giving Weynton another male to play with.
By 1999, Hunter was almost fully grown. Weynton's fin had straightened out, but researchers speculated that it might still collapse. We would never find out, though, because in 2000, Weynton disappeared. He was declared dead the next year at age 29.
