Bare Facts: Female ~ Born 1991 ~ Mother Lama ~ Father Unknown ~ Children None ~ ID Very open, swirly saddle; rounded tip

Virago was born in 1991, to Lama. In 2006, we finally figured that Virago is female. She was Lama's second calf.
Virago was born into a family of 8: mom Lama, brother Kisameet, uncles Hunter and Weynton, grandma Ivory and great-great-uncle Booker. Around the same time Virago was born, uncle Squally was also born.
Virago remained the baby until she was three years old, when sister Quadra was born. Three years later, sibling Diver joined the family. The same year, Booker disappeared.
Virago is easily identified by the unique open saddle patch she sported on the left. As the young whale grew, the saddle became more distinctive, but stayed relatively dark. Also, unlike almost everyone else in the family, Virago's fin had a rounded, rather than pointed, tip.
When Virago was 9 years old, uncle Weynton died. Four years later, Lama gave birth to her youngest sibling, C25. The same year, Kisameet and uncle Squally both began to mature, and by the next year had sprouted towering dorsal fins.
In 2004, Virago confused researchers by disappearing. Since most whales only disappear with death, researchers feared the worst. Then, to everyone's surprise, she showed up again with her family, healthy as ever, in 2006! It's possible that she had wandered off with D-Pod, since for some reason Virago has been seen to travel with them fairly often.
In 2006, when Virago was 15, sister Quadra was most likely hit by a boat, and soon after, found dead. It's possible that Quadra had a calf before death, and if so, Virago may end up taking the little one in.
Now, Virago is 15 years old and helps mom keep an eye on the younger siblings.
