Quadra was born in 1994, to Lama (C8). She was Lama's third calf and second daughter. When she was first born, Quadra's family consisted of Lama, sister Virago, brother Kisameet, uncles Weynton, Hunter and Squally, grandma Ivory, and great-uncle Booker. A big family, in other words!
The young female had a fair amount of playmates; Virago and Squally were both only three when she was born, and when Quadra herself was 3, younger sibling Diver appeared on the scene!
The family flourished over the next few years, as Quadra grew and everyone remained healthy. The only concern researchers had for the group was older brother Weynton, whose fin had been injured and was twisting. In 2000, when she was 6, Quadra lost her uncle as Weynton disappeared over the winter.
Over the next few years, the group stayed the same, and Quadra began reaching maturity. In 2004, younger sibling C25 was born, and Squally and Kisameet both began to mature. Then in 2005, Virago disappeared to hang out with the Ds!
In 2006, however, tragedy hit the family. The year started off well, as Virago returned. Quadra, in fact, was seen with a newborn! Sadly, soon after the baby's birth, Quadra disappeared from the family. On July 18, 2006, she was found, dead, by fishermen near Prince Rupert. The twelve-year-old had severe internal bruising from blunt-force trauma, and although exact cause of death awaits the necropsy, she seems to have some sort of encounter with a boat. It is believed she wasn't exactly hit by one, but maybe got knocked to the side?
Her baby lives on however. The calf, C27, is currently being cared for by Quadra's mother Lama.
