What a lovely image! This gorgeous copyrighted image of a nest building great egret is courtesy of photographer Casey Szocinski. You can visit Casey's extensive "photocritique" image archive right here. (Go to List by Photographers, Last Name S, then SZOCINSKI, CASEY)

I learn that the great egret, Casmerodius albus, is amongst the most common of the herons, being found on both east and west coasts of the United States, in Canada, in South America and indeed throughout the world. 37 to 41 inches in size, it frequents both fresh and saltwater and is typically seen standing in shallow water stalking its prey. Casey tells me that this particular bird was photographed at the alligator farm in St. Augustine, Florida. While the bird is common, images of this quality are definitely not! We thank you, Casey, for permitting your fine image to be presented here.
