BC High School credits for Royal Conservatory Music (RCM) program


High School students in British Columbia may be able to receive credit towards Grade 11 or Grade 12 for music studies in the Royal Conservatory of Music program. The RCM issues Music Certificates, upon succesful completion of an exam (practical and theory), for the following instruments.

Piano, voice, guitar, accordian, or stringed instrument (violin, viola, 'cello) - if you meet the RCM practical requirements (through an Exam) at the Grade 7 Level + Grade 2 Theory, High School credits may be applied for Grade 11.

Recorder, brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument - if you meet the RCM practical requirements (through an Exam) at the Grade 6 Level + Grade 2 Theory, High School credits may be applied for Grade 11.

Piano, voice, guitar, accordian, stringed instrument (violin, viola, 'cello), recorder, brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument - if you meet the RCM practical requirements (through an Exam) at the Grade 8 Level + Grade 2 Theory, High School credits may be applied for Grade 12.

Please discuss this with your Music Teacher and High School Administrator (or Counsellor) if you feel you are able to apply RCM Certificates towards Graduation.
