Old Ironsides

Old Ironsides was the robot my dad built for the January Kilobots event. The Original design was to have all 4 sides being hinged wedges ala Biohazard but we realized that was going to be complicated and we didn't have much time to build it. My dad decided to keep the 4 sided wedge idea, but with a solid pyramid shaped shell overtop the bot.

Here is the paper template we made for the shell, you can also see the guts inside of it.

Speaking of guts, I'll talk about them for a bit. Drive is a pair of 22:1 Minimotors which we later changed to 60:1 Copals due to the Minimotors have pathetic torque. Also theres a 12 volt Antpack in there and a Scorpion ESC.

Here is the welde aluminum shell. The sides are 1/16" thick while the front and back panels are 1/8" to deal with those pesky spinners.

Even with the better copal motors, Ironsides still didn't have much pushy power due to lack of traction. We solved this by using spring to put force on the wheels. Anyways....

Heres Ironsides with his new top and the bolts for his spring system. Pretty much all ready to go.
