This is how PSYCH came to be...

On a fateful day of March 2001, where teens gathered together for the "Youth Health Forum", a few participants wanted to start an youth health advisory council. Our first meeting was on December 6th 2002. Coming up with our group name, was quite a hard procedure, we had names like "H2O", and some other things... after 2 Mondays of thinking, we finally came up with PSYCH -- "Positive Student Youth Council of Health". Our logo was even harder to decide. Since we had an all girls group, there was no guys opinion. At first, one of our girls suggested we should have butterflies. Then another decided we should have stars, then another decided we should have a 'swirly-looking' thing to go behind the words 'PSYCH'. As you can tell, we actually didnt' put any pictures in to keep it nice and simple and easy for people to read.
After weeks and weeks of meetings, we kicked off our first 'public appearance' by doing various surveys at Hugh Boyd Secondary, Steveston Secondary, McRoberts Secondary, and Cambie Secondary regarding what kinda of teen physical/mental health issues that they think that needs to be addressed more in schools are just around the city of Richmond.Shortly after tallying up the surveys, we planned to do a presentation at Steveston Secondary's Grade 7 Orientation, to tell the soon-to-be grade 8s about issues that they might face in a day to day high school life. It was a great success.
We are off to another great year, but still without a guys point of view. We are hoping to see some new faces, and see the group grow and achieve the goals that other teens want us to achieve -- to reach out to teens, in a teens point of view.

PSYCH meets every monday at 3:30pm in the meeting rooms across from the youth clinic in the Richmond Hospital. We always look foward to see some new faces, so feel free to drop by! New members are always welcomed!
