I understand that the very existence of certain species of turtle is threatened by global warming. Apparently the sex of the turtle that emerges from the egg is determined by temperature. So ALL turtle offspring in the future could well be females and the species may therefore be doomed. Mankind will have to intervene if the affected species are to survive - i.e. gather the eggs and incubate them at lower temperatures to ensure that there continue to be males of the species.
