CAKE & DECORATION

Cake
We did not hire a baker to make our wedding cake because we wanted to have a pair of mountaineers on top of the snowy mountain shape cake.

Instead of using icing to avoid the heart-burn, we used whipped double-cream. However, becauwe we did not study our placement of the wedding cake in the warm marquee, it gradually melted and sank, to the point of avalanching. We did manage to cut our cake before it happened. It sure was delicious though!!

Cake-Topper by Tim

Tim has made these figures by putting the paper clay on top of flexible wired dolls. They're really detailed from backpacks to the harnesses. Although we had this idea of making mountaineers as our cake-topper 3 years ago, it finally completed 3 days before our celebration! Miho only painted the figures.

Unfortunately, we don't have any photographs of Tim making these figures.
Cake by Miho

Miho baked the cake. Beause we feared that it may not raise, we used the ready-mix cake boxes. At first we were only using 3 boxes, but we ended up using 5 boxes instead...
Cake Server & Knife

We did have our own cake server and knife, so Miho's mom has decorated them with the ribbon and some lavender flowers.
Sponges were already baked a few days before the wedding and had been frozen. Miho defrosted the sponges, sliced them into thin pieces and layered them with whipped double-cream and fruits to make a mountain shape.

We used 9 cartons of 1-pint double-cream!! Snow (whipped cream) was spreaded all around the mountain, then the summit was constructed very pointy to express the very steep mountain.
** Aisle Decoration **

Although this should be in "decoration" section, we're going to mention it here since the photos are together.

Tim's mum has very kindly offered us two bunches of lavender from her garden for us to use in our ceremony. Miho's mom then made them into a nice bouquet and tied them to the back of the aisle. The aisle was also decorated with some ribbons and small flowers.

Decoration
People normally would ask the florist or venue to do their decoration for the wedding, but we did most of them ourselves to have total control and to economize our budget.

Half erected marquee:

Marquee was planned to be erected on Thursday, 3 days before the wedding. However the marquee company did it on Tuesday instead!
Adding walls and liners to this structure to complete the marquee.

The wiring for the marquee to provide the electricity was done by Miho's American dad and Tim, involving some electric shocks for Tim :)
Marquee in use:

Our marquee looked a little like a circus tent during the day, but it looks very nice in the evening with the lights on!
Aisle Decoration

As we have explained above, here is the photo of the lavender bouquets in use for the aisle.
Finger Food:

During the photography session, we had some light finger food and drinks for our guests to have in the manor, while they were not involved in the photos.
Miho's mom was the main person who worked on the finger food.

Because we had English food at our reception dinner, we tried to have as much Japanese food at this time.
Midnight Snack:

We knew there would be 3-4 hours from dinner to the end of the party, so we had some rice-cake ready to munch on!
Our History (photos):

For our guests enjoying the finger food, we had many of our photographs from the past (baby to now) displayed on the walls inside the manor.
Table Layouts:

We have rented tables and chairs from marquee company. However, they do not do the layouts, so we did it all by ourselves.
Table Decoration:

We had different kinds and colors of plants for each table to characterize the tables.

*Kalanchoe:pink/red/orange
*Cactus *Lyberia
*Irish Moss
Place Cards/Favors:

Instead of having regular place cards, we had our favor (key chain in shape of carabinar, of cause, to suit our mountain theme) wrapped in a bag with our guest's name on.
Serviettes were folded in fan shape to stand the menu and favor on the table.

Menu was also made by us!
We tagged each plant on the table with "Take Me Home"notes for our guests to keep them.
We also had chopsticks at each seat, not only for Japanese guests, but for all our guests. They were decorated with the matching paper with our invitation and some clorored paper string.
We purchased our tea light holders and beads at IKEA. They looked really nice on the table in both daylight and candle light!
