Strider was one of the most well-known whales in the Strait, like many A30 whales. He was born around 1964, most likely to Tsitika (A30).

He was known as a favourite for whale-watchers, being easy to identify (the notch by the top of his fin) and having no real fear of boats. He spent most of his time playing with his brothers and keeping his mother company. Like his two brothers, Strider was curiously protective of Tsitika; the three brothers always made sure one brother was with their mom at all times. A lot of the time, Strider was the brother on duty.

Strider was most often seen in the company of Tsitika or his brother Blackney. He was also a confirmed father! Recent genetic testing revealed that Strider was the father of Sutlej (A45). Everyone knows Sutlej's daughter Springer (A73) as the little orphan whale who got reunited with her family. Strider's her grandfather!
Strider was certainly a character. Once, in a story that the Mackays of whale-watching fame like to entertain their customers with, a fat and happy Strider persistantly pushed a boat along with his head, slowly but determinedly!
Strider probably helped his mother raise his younger siblings. Sadly, the year his first nephew/niece was born (Bend), Strider died. He went missing after August 1999, and the same year declared dead. He lives on in Springer. :)
