Scylla was born in 1988 to 21-year-old Kelsey. She was Kelsey's fourth calf. At the time of her birth, only one older sibling was alive.
When she was born, the family consisted of mom Kelsey and older sister Sutlej. They also spent a lot of their time with Scylla's aunt Yakat and cousins Skagit, Skeena, Siwiti and Kiltik.
Kiltik was only a year older than Scylla, so they probably played together.
For the next four years, Scylla traveled at her mom's side with sister Sutlej. Researchers were hopeful that Scylla would do better than her two siblings, both of whom died in their first year.
In 1992, Kelsey gave birth again, to Surf (A58). Sadly, the same year, Scylla herself died at four years old.
