A49 was born in 1985 to Kelsey, when Kelsey was about 18 years old. He/she was Kelsey's third calf.
When A49 was born, the family consisted of big sister Sutlej, mom Kelsey, aunt Yakat, and cousins Skeena, Skagit and Siwiti.
Siwiti and Sutlej were only two years old at the time, so they were playmates to the little calf. For a year the little one bobbed up beside mom.
Sadly, the little calf died the next year, just one of the A4 pod's many losses.
