A44 was born in 1973, to Sophia (A36). She was one of the first whales we were positive about date of birth and mother. She joined her grandmother, Stubbs, uncle Hardy, and older brother Cracroft.
When A44 was a year old, her grandmother died, leaving the family with four members.
A44 survived the critical first year, which claimed the lives of so many calves. Sadly, her life was still cut far too short. She died in 1975, still just a toddler at two years old.
