Photos of the calf

Bare Facts: Unknown ~ Born January 2007 ~ Mother Yakat ~ Father Unknown ~ Children None ~ ID Tucked next to Yakat!

This little calf was first spotted by the good people of Seasmoke Whale-Watching, in January 2007. The excited news traveled quickly, and soon OrcaLab got their own glimpse of the surprising baby. The calf (ID number as yet unknown) appears to be the newest baby of Yakat, matriarch of the A11s! Yakat hasn't had a calf in 17 years, and she's over 40 years old!
The little baby seems to be healthy and playful, tucked between Yakat, big sister Nahwitti, big brother Skeena, and cousin Springer. Springer has a new playmate now!
We'll be watching this unexpected calf to see it grow. If it reaches 2 years old, it will be named by the KWAP program.
