Dusky was born around July 13, 2005. He/she is Misty (A62)'s first calf, making Simoom a first-time grandma, and Scimitar a first-time GREAT-grandma! Dusky was seen hopping along in mom's wake on OrcaLive cameras only a few days after being born!
Dusky joins a large family consisting of granny Simoom, mom, uncle Echo, aunt Eclipse, and aunt/uncles Stormy and Hope. The little calf probably has a playmate in Hope, who's only a year older. He/she also travels sometimes with great uncle Nimpkish and great grandma Scimitar.
In 2007, Dusky received its name from the BC Killer Whale Adoption Program, a symbol of his/her survival of the crucial first two years!
We'll be watching this beautiful little calf closely to see if Misty has learned to be as great a mother as her mom!
