JULY 1ST - MOVING DAY - THE REGIE DU LOGEMENT IS JUST A PHONE CALL AWAY

Please, advise neighbours of the contents of this message, but
NEVER POST IT ON THE LANDLORD'S PROPERTY
(this includes lobbies, elevators, laundry rooms, and bulletin boards)

For many households, July 1st means a day off and also a moving day! So, this year again, the Régie du logement will answer requests for information from tenants and owners during this eventful day.

Telephone information clerks will be on duty June 30th and July 1st from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon, and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The numbers to call are given below :

- In the Montréal region : (514) 873-2245

- Everywhere else in Québec : 1-800-683-2245

The Régie du logement reminds that a new tenant's right to occupy a dwelling begins on the first day of the lease; the tenant who is moving out does not have a day's grace to vacate the dwelling. That said, it is obviously not possible for everyone to obtain a moving truck at the same time: the Régie du logement encourages everyone to be polite and civic-minded and to exercise their rights in a reasonable manner.

Thus, the tenant who is vacating a dwelling must allow the new tenant to lay his or her personal effects in the dwelling without delay, by clearing some rooms so they can be moved in while the effects of the former tenant are being moved out. Given that the owner must make the dwelling available to the new tenant on the agreed date, it is advisable that he set the terms and conditions for the move with the tenant who is leaving and the new tenant.

Furthermore, the owner must deliver the dwelling in a good state of cleanliness and repair; he would be well-advised to ascertain the condition of the dwelling after the previous tenants have moved out.

Moving-related messages are recorded on the Régie's automated telephone system and can be listened to around the clock; the Régie's Website offers additional information at www.rdl.gouv.qc.ca.
