Rent Increases / NITA Membership

Please, advise neighbours of the contents of this message, but
NEVER POST IT ON THE LANDLORD'S PROPERTY
(this includes lobbies, elevators, laundry rooms, and bulletin boards)

Those among us with leases renewing on July 1, 2006 might receive Renewal Notices from the landlord as early as January 2006. Given that the Régie du logement (Quebec Rental Board) should release their indices around January 18, 2006, NITA will then be in a better position to inform members as to whether the increase requested by the landlord (perhaps +3% again this year?) is reasonable or not. NITA expects to make an official announcement by the end of January, and will keep you informed.

Remember that you have exactly one month from the date of RECEIPT of the landlord's renewal notice to send your refusal of all MODIFICATIONS (should you decide to refuse). Therefore, there's no need to rush your decision. For details, consult NITA's Web site, flyers, as well as past and future mass e-mails. Also, please attend NITA Renewal Workshops (one in English, the other in French, each Winter). All tenants are invited.

Thank you to those tenants:
* Who tell NITA (preferably via e-mail) their file numbers, assigned by the Rental Board ("31-0xxxxx-xxxF")
* Who keep their Association abreast of any negotiations with their landlord concerning rent increases, as well as to those
* Who renewed their NITA memberships (annual dues remain $ 10).

Did *YOU* do all of that?

NITA (Nuns' Island Tenants Association) is a non-profit organization, staffed by volunteers, founded in February 1993, whose aim is to inform, to represent and to defend the rights of all Nuns' Island tenants.
