Walkthrough

Disc One

As soon as you surface, pick up the ration in the shallow water. Climb the stairs and use the X button along with the Analog stick or Directional pad to crawl under the pipe blocking your path. Use your radar to be alert of the guards in the room. To kill them, you have to sneak up behind them (Key word SNEAK) and repeatedly tap the square button to choke them. Make sure you don't step in any puddles accidently because it will sometimes alert nearby guards. if you want to alert guards, stand up against a wall and tap on it with your hand. After dispatching the guards, Campbell will call you on the Codec. After the call, hide behind the forklift in the top right area of the screen until the elevator arrives. when the coast is clear and the guard that was on the elevator can't see you anymore, run onto the elevator. the next area is a large outdoor helicopter landing area. Now is a good a time as any to save your game. Call Mei Ling at 140.96 on your Codec. The main objective in this area is to infiltrate the building. Your first order of business is to run past the search lights and jump into the truck. You will find a Socom Pistol behind the box in the truck. There is a guard in the top left portion of the screen sleeping. Crawl past him without making any noise and make your way into the ventilation shaft. Move along the wall slowly when you exit the vent, searching every room for items as you go. Go down the stairs slowly and carefully, then call for the elevator and hide until it arrives.

when the elevator gets to your floor, use it to go to floor B1. run down the hallway and on the right, you'll find a ladder. Use it to climb into the vents again. You can look down and witness a few cinemas that aren't integral, such as a guard with a bad case of the runs and Meryl toning her abs, but that's not what you're here for. make your way to the DARPA Cheif's cell and enter it. You'll witness a lengthy cinema, in which the cheif will reveal some story elements, then suddenly die. There's a Ration under the bed. Exit the cell and you'll begin a short mini game.

The key is to use the rations the guards drop as you need them, and realize it isn't too important to try and conserve ammo. the less hits you take, the more ammo and rations you receive. Use the key card to get the items from the rooms you previously couldn't and use the elevator to go to floor B2. When you reach floor B2, make your way to the room in the middle on the top row. Grab the C4 and use it on the blueish areas on the wall bordering the main floor. The left part of the room on the bottom will be wehere your main objective is. Use the C4 on the blue spot here and go through the newly created hole in the wall. Continue using the C4 until you get to the first boss, Revolver Ocelot.

The trick to killing him is to only fire one bullet at a time and make sure you have a clear shot. Remember that it's game over if you touch any of the strings attached to the explosives holding Baker. Go back to the main floor when the fight is over and get the Grenades out of the bottom left room. Put on your thermal goggles or use your cigarettes and enter the lower right room. Crawl under the lasers and grab the FA-MAS. Use the elevator to go back to the first floor and go to the room on the far right. Sneak past the guard that is sleeping very quietly (try crawling) and get the silencer for your Socom. Call 140.15 on your Codec to contact Meryl. After she opens the cargo door for you, save it, then enter. Use your thermal goggles to get past the lasers. Watch out for the mines in the outdoor area (use your mine detector and look at the map). You will now face off against the Vulcan Raven.

Use a Chaff Gernade to mess up the tank first, using more as they wear off, then use normal gernades and try to throw them at the center of the tank. After the fight, enter the building and crawl under the door blocking your way. Hug the left wall and climb up the stairs. Use the elevator to go to floor B1. Enter the room across from the elevator and go to the middle room on the right were you will pick up the Nikita. Go to floor B2 and use the Nikita with a guided missle to blow up the fuse box. The third room on your way down after taking care of the fuse box has a gasmask wich you should equip immediatley. At the end of the hallway with the dead bodies, you'll fight Ninja.

When Ninja dissapears, use the Thermal goggles to find him. when he starts spinning around and going nuts, shoot him with any weapon until he falls. Go back to floor B1 and go to the room across from the elevator after the fight. One of the guards in this room is really Meryl. When you find her, she will run into the washroom. Follow her. Enter the room at the top of the hallway and you will fight Psycho Mantis. The first step is to knock out Meryl by either throwing her or using a Stun grenade, but be careful not to kill her. When the actual battle starts, plug your controller into the second controller port so Mantis can't read your mind. Don't worry if you get the HIDEO message.

It's not your TV messing up, it's supposed to happen. Use your FA-MAS and continue knocking out Meryl when Mantis takes control of her. When Mantis is dead, go through the cave, punching out the wolves as you go. When you exit the cave, Meryl will tell you to follow her footsteps so you don't step on a mine. Instead of following her, just crawl in a straight line to the top. It's easier, faster, and you'll have some mines in your inventory when you're done. After meryl gets shot, run back to the armory(where you used the C4 and fought Revolver Ocelot). You now have the key card neccesary to attain the PSG-1, the sniper rifle you'll use in the next boss fight. go back to where Meryl was shot, but in the biggest room in the cave, make sure you crawl under the wall near the bottom to get the Diazpan. Use it to straigten out your shots and use your thermal goggles to see where sniper wolf is hiding. After she is dead, save it and run up the hallway. When you try to enter the door, you'll get ambushed by Sniper Wolf and some guards. In the following torture sequence, if you give up, Meryl will die. If you survive all the rounds of torture, Meryl will live. This affects which ending you get and the bonus item you receive at the end of the game. When you are in the cell after the torture, call Otacon and he will eventually arrive with a bottle of Ketchup and a Scarf. When the guard runs off, lie down on the floor and use the Ketchup bottle. When the guard comes back, he will be alarmed and opens the door to your cell. Get up and kick his ass. You can also hide under the bed when the guard runs away to make him think you left when he returns. Go back to the torture cell and grab your stuff from the box near the torture rack, then leave through the door to your right. Don't forget to toss out the bomb in your item list. Remember when you were captured right before entering that door after the fight with Sniper Wolf? Well, get yourself back there and enter the door. Make sure you get the rope inside the tower. It is essential to your progression. This part's a real pain in the ass. Get out your FA-MAS and blast away at the guards as you run all the way to the top of the stairs. When you reach the top, you will encounter Liquid, but youv'e got to escape quickly. Use the rope to jump over the side and make your way down the wall, avoiding the gas leaks and Liquid's gun fire as you descend. When you reach the long walkway, get out your thermal goggles and your PSG-1. Use a Diazpan to straigten out your aim and take out the guards on the other side of the walkway. Continue and grab the Stinger Missle Launcher. Use Chaff Grenades to knock out the drone guns in the next set of stairs then climb the stairs to get to the next boss fight, Liquid Snake. Use your Stinger and make sure you lock on to the Hind-D before you fire. There are some rations nearby if you need them. After the fight, Otacon will call you informing you about the elevator nearby. Go back downstairs to the elevator. Get out your thermal goggles and the FA-MAS when you're inside the elevator and take out the guards using stealth. When the elevator stops, you'll arrive in a large field where you will again fight Sniper Wolf. Use the same technique you used for the first fight. Use the thermal goggles, the PSG-1, and some Diazpan. You'll have to look hard for Sniper Wolf. She'll hide behind the trees in the area. After the battle and a short cinema sequence, you will be prompted to enter the second disc.

Disc Two

When you enter the next building, you will notice that there is a very thin ledge leading to the other side. Use it and make sure you crouch when the large metal thing passes you, if you don't, Snake will be knocked into the lava below. When you exit the furnace area, you will be in a large area with two cargo elevators. Operate the first one using the control panel and kill the guards that try to stop you with your FA-MAS. When the elevator arrives, go right to find another elevator that will take you to the next boss fight, your second encounter with Vulcan raven.

Equip your Stinger. Look at the map to find out where Raven is going and try to ambush him by hiding behind a box that has a line of sight to the next open area that Raven will be passing through. Once you see Raven, fire a Stiger Missle at him. Follow this pattern until he falls. Avoid the trap doors in the middle of the next hallway and use Chaff Grenades to get past the drone guns in the next room unscratched. In the next area, you will find Metal Gear Rex. Make your way to the top of the area using the ladders in the area, and make sure you don't spend too much time in the water. when you get to the top, you will drop the PAL disc to the very bottom of the area after a short cinema sequence. The Disc can be found in the stream, though it is random exactly where it is. An unfortunate turn of events that may take place will be that a rat may eat your PAL Disc. If the rat does eat the disc, you'll have to plant some C4 charges and blow up the rodent to get the disc back. When you get the disc back, return to the room at the top and use the disc on the first computer. To use it on the second and third computers, you will have to heat it up for one and make it very cold for the other. You can do this by taking it back to where you fought Raven and wait until the item turns blue (this may take a while). Use it on the next computer in the Metal Gear Rex area and then head back to the blast furnace. You've probably guessed it by now, but you should hang around here until the key turns red. When it does, take it back and use it on the final computer. Save before you use the third key, this is where things can get messy. Make sure youv'e got plenty of Stinger Ammo and are confident in the number of rations you posses. After a story progression, you will fight Metal Gear Rex, piloted by Liquid Snake.

Use your Stingers and aim for the circular metal part of rex's arm. When Missles are fired at you, run in between Rex's legs. Follow this strategy until Rex's health is depleted. After you think Rex is beaten, he will rise again. Use the same strategy, but this time aim for Rex's face. After you think it's over again, another fight will ensue, again. this time you will take on Liquid in the purest form of Combat.

Keep Punching Liquid using the Circle button, and be careful to dodge his attacks. It is much more important to stay alive than land another quick hit in, so dodge whenever you see an attack coming. After Liquid is dead, You will attempt to escape the building with either Otacon or Meryl depending on how you did in the torture sequence. Man the gun in the back of the Jeep and take down all the enemies in your way. An efficient way to conserve your health is to aim for the Barrels when there are a lot of guards nearby to take out a few enemies without wating too much time. When you make your way past all the guards, you will face Liquid, again, but this time it's a joke. Make sure you pick up all the Rations you can on your way out, then keep shooting at liquid until you both make a grand exit. If you submitted to the torture, you will escape with Otacon and receive a Stealth device for your next journey through the game. If you stuck with it and beat the torture rack, Meryl will survive and you will escape with her. With the so called "good" ending where Meryl survives, you receive a Bandana for the next trip through the game. The Bandana will give you Unlimited Ammo when Equipped.
