An illuminated manuscript from the book called either "The Hunting Book" or "The Book of the Hunt". It was written in France by Gaston Pheobus, the Count of Foix and Viscount of Bearn between 1387 to 1391.He wrote this book to explain how to hunt different kinds of animals. This particular image was an illustration for ferreting or how to use ferrets to hunt rabbits.
This image is an italian painting called "Pope Celestinus III Grants Privilege of Independence to the Spedale" by Domenico Di Bartolo in 1443. The man in the picture is said to be Sienese. His pet ferret is around his neck.
This image is of John the Fearless, who was the Duke of Burgundy from 1404 - 1419.John the Fearless is the man with the live stoat(ferret cousin) around his neck. This painting is currently located at the Louvre in Paris.
This painting is located in Czartoryski Museum in Cracow. It is called "Lady with Ermine" and was painted by none other than Leonardo Da Vinci around 1485 - 1490. The lady in the painting is supposedly Cecilla Gallerani of Milan. While the white ermine was only meant to be symbolic of chastity.
This painting hangs in the Courtauld Institute of Art and is owned by The Marquess of Salisbury. It is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth I with her pet ferret called "Ermine portrait of Queen Elizabeth the First".
