Kathleen Sheppard Letting Go.......for my son I hold your tiny hand in mine you take a few small steps A look of determination upon your face I let go and hold my breath I watch as you move slowly forward and you tumble to the ground I want to run and scoop you up but I wait patiently without making a sound You push yourself up to your feet steady now, dont fall You're more determined than before it's time to walk not crawl You take a step and balance yourself its difficult but yet you know I take a deep breath and think to myself "Only three more steps to go" Your arms are moving in excitement your eyes they show success and my heart fills up with pride and joy as you take those baby steps As you've grown through the years I remember that precious time how letting go was hard to do when your tiny hand was inside mine Still you should know as you go and walk life's baby steps I'll always be there for you -watching and sometimes holding my breath Submit a Poem Review new Poems
