Fellowship of the Ring Elrond: Lasto beth nin. Tolo dan nan galad [Hear my voice. Come back to the light.] ***** Elrond: Welcome to Rivendell, Frodo Baggins ***** Elrond: His strength returns. Gandalf: That wound will never fully heal. He will carry it for the rest of his life. Elrond: Yet to have come so far still bearing the ring, the hobbit has shown remarkable Resilience to its evil. Gandalf: It is a burden he should never have had to bear. We can ask no more of Frodo. Elrond: Gandalf, the Enemy is moving. Sauron's forces are massing in the East. The Eye is fixed on Rivendell. Now you tell me Saruman has betrayed us. The list of our allies grows thin. Gandalf: His treachery goes deeper than you know. At Falcraft, Saruman has crossed orcs with goblin men. He is breeding an army in the caverns of Isengard. An army that can move in sunlight, and travel great distances at speed. Saruman is coming for the ring. Elrond: This evil cannot be concealed by the power of the elves. We do not have the strength to stand against Mordor and Isengard both. The ring cannot stay here. This peril belongs to all Middle-Earth, and they must decide now how to end it. The age of elves is over. My people are leaving these shores. Who will you turn to once we are gone? The dwarves hide in their mountains seeking riches and care not for the troubles of others. Gandalf: We must place our hope in men. Elrond: Men! The race of men is weak, failing. The blood of Numenor is all but spent, its pride and dignity forgotten. It is because of men that the Ring survives. I was there, three thousand years ago, when Isildur took the ring. I was there when the strength of men failed. (flashback: Isildur takes the ring) Follow me! I led Isildur into
the heart of (flashback to Isildur: (flashback to Elrond: (flashback to It should have ended that day, but evil was allowed to endure. Isildur kept the Ring. The line of Kings is broken. There is no strength left in the world of men. They are scattered, divided, leaderless. Gandalf: There is one who could unite them. Who could reclaim the throne of Gondor. Elrond: He turned from that path long ago. He has chosen exile. ***** Elrond: Strangers from distant lands, friends of old. You are summoned here to answer the threat of Mordor. Middle-Earth stands on the brink of destruction. You will unite or you will fall. Each race is bound to this fate, this one doom. Bring forth the ring, Frodo. ***** Elrond: Never before has any voice uttered the words of that tongue here in Imladris. ***** Elrond: You have only one choice. The ring must be destroyed. ***** Elrond: The ring cannot be destroyed,
Gimli, son of Gloin, by any craft that we here
possess. It was made in the fires of ***** Sam: Heh! Mr. Frodo is not goin’ anywhere without me! Elrond: No indeed, it is hardly possible to separate you even when he is summoned to a secret council and you are not. Pippi and Merry:
Wait! We are coming too! Merry: You'd
have to send us home tied up in a sack to stop us! Pippin: Anyway
you need people of intelligence on this sort of mission, quest... thing. Merry: Well
that rules you out Pip. ***** Elrond: Nine companions... So be it! You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring! ***** Elrond:
Anirne hene beriad i chên în. [She
wanted to protect her child] Ned Imladris nauthant e le beriathar aen. [She thought in Rivendell you would be safe]
In her heart your Mother knew you'd be hunted all your life. That you'd never
escape your fate. The skill of the Elves can reforge the sword of kings but
only you have the power to wield it Aragorn: I do not want that power. I
have never wanted it Elrond: You are the last of the blood line. There is
no other. Pippin: Where are we going? ***** Elrond: The Ringbearer is setting out on the Quest of
Mount Doom. On you who travel with him, no oath nor bond is
laid to go further than you will. Farewell. Hold to your purpose. May the
blessings of Elves and Men and all Free Folk go with you.

Elrond: Our time here is ending. Arwen's time is ending. Let her go. Let her take the ship into the West. Let her bear away her love for you to the Undying Lands. There it will be evergreen. Aragorn: But never more than a memory. Elrond: I will not leave my daughter here to die. Aragorn: She stays because she still has hope. Elrond: She stays for YOU! She belongs with her people! ***** Elrond: Arwen, tollen i lu. I chair gwannar na Valannor. Si bado, no cirar. [The ships are leaving for Valinor. Go now, before it is too late.] (Arwen sits up.) Arwen: I have made my choice. Elrond: He is not coming back. Why do you linger here when there is no hope. Arwen: There is still hope. Elrond: If Aragorn survives this war, you will still be parted. If Sauron is defeated and Aragorn made King and all that you hope for comes true, you will still have to taste the bitterness of mortality. ***** Elrond: Whether by the sword or the slow decay of time, Aragorn will die. (flash forward to a crypt in Minas Tirith) There will be no comfort for you. No comfort to ease the pain of his passing. He will come to death. An image of the splendour of the Kings of Men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world. But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. Here you will dwell, bound to your grief, under the fading trees until all the world is changed and the long years of your life are utterly spent. (Arwen wanders in a bare, cold forest.) ***** Elrond: Arwen... There is nothing for you here, only death. Ah im, u-'erin veleth lin? [Do I not also have your love?] Arwen: Gerich veleth nin, ada. [You have my love, father.] The
Return of the King Elrond (voice over): Take her by the safest road. A ship lies at anchor in the Grey Havens. It waits to take her across the sea. The last journey of Arwen Undómiel. (flashback to Elrond): There is nothing for you here. Only death. Elf: Lady Arwen, we cannot delay. My Lady! Arwen: Tell me what you have seen. Elrond: Arwen. Arwen: You have the gift of foresight. What did you see? Elrond: I looked into your future and I saw death. Arwen: There is also life. You saw that there was a child. You saw my son. Elrond: That future is almost gone. Arwen: But it is not lost. Elrond: Nothing is certain Arwen: Some things are certain. If I leave him how, I will regret it forever. It is time. [Arwen approaches the shards of Narsil, wearing a dark cloak.] Arwen (voice over): From the ashes a fire shall be woken. A light from the shadow shall spring. Renewed shall be blade that was broken. The crownless again shall be king. Arwen: Reforge the sword. Elrond: Your hands are cold. The life of the Eldar is leaving you. Arwen: It is my choice. ***** Clip3 Elrond: I come on behalf of one whom I love. Arwen is dying. She will not long survive the Evil that now spreads from Mordor. The light of the evenstar is fading. As Sauron's power grows her strength wanes. Arwen's life is now tied to the fate of the ring. A shadow is upon us Aragorn. The end is come. Aragorn: It will not be our end, but his. Elrond: You ride to war, but not to victory. Sauron's armies march on Minas Tirith, as you know. But in secret he sends another force, which will attack from the river. A fleet of Corsair ships sails from the south. It will be in the city in two days. You're outnumbered, Aragorn. You need more men. Aragorn: There are none. Elrond: There are those who dwell in the mountain. Aragorn: Murderers, traitors. you would call upon them to fight? They believe in nothing. They'll answer to no one. Elrond: They will answer to the king of Gondor! Anduril, flame of the West, forged from the shards of Narsil. Aragorn: Sauron will not have forgotten the Sword of Elendil. The blade that was broken shall return to Minas Tirith. Elrond: The man who wields the power of this sword can summon to him an army more deadly than any that walks this earth. Put aside the Ranger. Become who you were born to be. Take the Dimholt road. Ónen i-Estel Edain. [I gave Hope to the Dúnedain.] Aragorn: Ú-chebin Estel anim. [I have kept no hope for myself.] ***** Elrond: I Aear cân ven na mar. [The Sea calls us home.] Home Biography Filmography Galleries Soundfiles Links Contact Disclaimer: This is a non-profit site
