Battersea Merchants Vs Brett Contracting Cowboys
Catcher Mike Tye led off the game for Battersea with a single to left field and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by third baseman Greg Dixon.  Cowboys pitcher Scott Nichol was able to retire the next two batters to get out of the jam.  In the bottom of the first inning centre fielder Jeff Hannah led off with a walk but was quickly erased on a popped up bunt attempt.  Shortstop Doug Kane then hit a hard ball to second base and reached on an error.  Second baseman Jon Swaine followed with a homerun to centre field to open the scoring.  Battersea cut the lead in half in the second inning when first baseman Tony Switzer drew a two out walk and then scored on a ball hit by left fielder Kevin Burtch that went off of the glove of the fielder.  The Cowboys responded in the home half of the inning with a two out rally.  Left fielder Brandon Burtch singled with two out and moved to second on a walk to designated player Kevin Gauvreau.  Hannah then followed with a single to right centre field to score Burtch.  Battersea starter Mike Paul left the game in the bottom of the third inning after being hit on the left forearm with a line drive.  In the fourth inning, Hannah hit a one out double for the Cowboys and later scored on a hard ground ball by Kane that was misplayed by the third baseman.  Kane later scored on a passed ball to make the score 5-1.  The Cowboys finished the scoring in the fifth inning, scoring three more times.  First baseman Kevin Buchan led off the inning with a walk and moved to second base on a ground ball by third baseman Jon Peters that was misplayed.  Both runners advanced on an infield single by Brandon Burtch, and Buchan scored on the play when the ball went off of the shortstop.  Peters scored on a ground out by Hannah and right fielder Tim Murphy hit an RBI single to left field to score Burtch.
