The first game of the semi-final series between East Side Mario's and
Battersea took place at the Inverary Youth Field. Battersea jumped
out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. First baseman Mike
Paul reached base with two outs when his hit was misplayed in the infield.
Pitcher Kirk Bertrim followed with a single to put runners on first and
third. Centre fielder Chris Switzer then singled to drive in the
opening run of the game. A single by third baseman Greg Dixon scored Bertrim
and after a walk to shortstop Tony Switzer loaded the bases, right fielder
Ryan Dixon knocked in two runs with a single. East Side Mario's began
their rally in the bottom of the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
Catcher Adam Kyle led off the inning with a single and moved to second
when second baseman Mike Rathwell reached base on an error. One out
later, right fielder Bob Cronk singled to left field to score Kyle.
Left fielder Scott McDonald then followed with a sacrifice fly to left
field to score Rathwell. In the bottom of the sixth inning, shortstop
Ken Spicer hit a solo homerun to make the score 4-3. Mike Paul came
on to relieve Kirk Bertrim for Battersea after the homerun. Battersea
added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when left fielder Kevin
Burtch led off the inning with a single. Burtch was able to score after
the ball was thrown into centre field when
Burtch attempted to steal second base, giving Battersea a 5-3 lead.
East Side Mario's rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh
on a two run single by centre fielder Brad Cashman, that scored first baseman
Ryan Bowes, who had reached base on an error, and Cronk, who had walked.
In the eighth inning, Battersea was able to get the lead off man, Bertrim,
on base
via a single but could not move him past second base. In the
home half of the inning, third baseman Derek Shaver led off the inning
with a high chopper between third and the pitcher's mound. The ball
was fielded and then thrown into right field allowing Shaver to reach third
base. Pitcher Kurt Clark then singled to left field to score the
game winning run.

East Side Mario's opened the scoring in the top of the first inning.
Centre fielder Brad Cashman led off the game with a single up the middle.
One out later, Cashman was able to score on a groundout to shortstop by
third baseman Tony Switzer. Battersea rallied to tie the score in
the second inning. Third baseman Kirk Bertrim drew a walk to begin
the inning. After a fielder's choice put centre fielder Chris Switzer
on base, pitcher Kirk Sudds hit a single off the centre field fence to
drive in the tying run. East Side Mario's immediately responded in
the third inning, scoring twice to take a 3-1 lead. Left fielder
Scott McDonald led off the inning with a bunt single. One out later,
after McDonald had stolen second base, shortstop Ken Spicer hit an RBI
double to left centre field. Shaver then followed with an RBI single
to score Spicer. In the fourth inning East Side Mario's added four
more runs on two two run homeruns. Pitcher Bob Finucan led off the
inning with a single. Jerry Fowler was inserted as a pinch runner
and he scored on a two run homerun by right fielder Ryan Bowes to left
field. Cashman doubled to right field with two out and Spicer followed
with a homerun to right centre field to extend the lead to 7-1. Battersea
managed to load the bases in the sixth inning with two out but could not
score a run.

In the first game of the best of five series, the Brett Contracting
Cowboys played Moscow in Moscow. The Cowboys opened the scoring in
the top of the first inning. Centre fielder Jeff Hannah reached base
on a walk and scored two outs later on a single to right field by catcher
Craig Pearce. Shortstop Doug Kane followed with a single to left field
and both runners
scored on a two RBI double by first baseman Kevin Buchan. Moscow
replied in the bottom of the second inning, scoring one run to cut the
deficit to 3-1. Left fielder Jason Sutton reached base on an error to begin
the inning and scored one out later on an RBI single up the middle by shortstop
Jamie Reid. The Cowboys extended their lead in the fourth inning.
Designated player
Mike Halligan led off the inning with a single to left field and scored
when second baseman Kevin Gauvreau hit a triple to right centre field.
Gauvreau scored two outs later on a double to left field by left fielder
Pat Severin. Moscow answered in the home half of the inning. Sutton
hit a one out slap double over second base and scored on a deep double
to left centre field by first baseman Mike Finn. Finn scored on a
sacrifice fly by Reid to make the score 5-3. Moscow rallied to tie
the game in the sixth inning. Reid reached base on an error with
one out to start the rally. Three consecutive two out singles, by
right fielder Dave Kerr, catcher Chris Reid and third baseman Chris Hartwick,
allowed Moscow to generate two runs and tie the score. The Cowboys
ended the inning when right field Tim Murphy threw out Chris Reid at the
plate. The Cowboys scored the go ahead run in the top of the seventh
inning. Murphy reached base after being hit by a pitch to lead off
the inning. Corey Brooks came in to relieve Moscow starter Kevin
MacDonald. After a passed ball allowed Murphy to move to second base,
Severin delivered a double to left centre field to score Murphy with the
winning run. The Cowboys loaded the bases with one out but could
not manage to score another run. Moscow was able to have the tying
run reach base in the seventh but could not score a run.

Game 2 of the best of five series between the Brett Contacting Cowboys
and Moscow was played at the Inverary Youth Field diamond. Moscow
opened the scoring in the top of the third inning on an RBI triple to left
centre field by left fielder Andrew Plumley that scored shortstop Jamie
Reid, who had singled off of third base. Catcher Chris Reid drove
in Plumley with an
infield single. In the fourth inning Moscow extended their lead
to 3-0. Centre fielder Jason Sutton led off the inning with a single to
right field and scored on a single by first baseman Mike Finn that was
misplayed in the outfield. The Cowboys scored two runs in the bottom
of the inning to cut into the deficit. Centre fielder Jeff Hanna
led off the inning with a single and one out later left fielder Pat Severin
hit a homerun to right centre field. The Cowboys tied the game in
the fifth inning on a lead off solo homerun by first baseman Kevin Buchan.
Moscow responding the sixth inning scoring the go ahead run. Finn
led off the inning with a double to left centre field and was replaced
by pinch runner Kevin MacDonald. Third baseman Chris Hartwick the
followed with a single up the middle that was misplayed by the fielder
to allow MacDonald to score. Moscow added three
insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 7-3.
Chris Reid led off with a walk and scored one out later when pitcher Corey
Brooks hit a homerun to right centre field. Sutton followed with
a double to right field and scored on a Finn double to right centre field.

Monday, September 9
Game 3 of the series between Moscow and the Brett Contracting Cowboys
was played at the Inverary Youth Field diamond. The Cowboys opened
the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Catcher Craig Pearce
singled to right centre field to lead off the inning. Shortstop Doug
Kane moved Pearce to second with a sacrifice bunt and one out later Pearce
scored when a hard hit ball by designated player Mike Halligan was misplayed
in the infield. The Cowboys extended their lead in the third inning
on an RBI single by left fielder Pat Severin. Centre fielder Jeff
Hannah had reached base with one out and was moved to second on a sacrifice
bunt by right fielder Tim Murphy. Moscow tied the game in the top of the
fourth inning. Centre fielder Corey Brooks led off the inning with
a homerun to left centre field to make the score 2-1. First baseman
Jason Sutton reached base and scored when a bunt attempt by pitcher Mike
Finn was thrown into right field. The Cowboys immediately took the
lead again in the bottom of the inning when Kane led off with a homerun
to left centre field. Moscow tied the score again in the
top of the sixth inning. Thrid baseman Chris Hartwick led off
the inning with a single and moved to second on a single by shortstop Jamie
Reid. Right fielder Mike Yeomans then moved the runners to second and third
with a sacrifice bunt. Left fielder Andrew Plumley then hit an RBI
single to centre field to tie the score at 3-3. In the bottom of
the seventh, third baseman Ken Crook beat out an infield single with one
out and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by pinch hitter Adam Lake.
Hannah then followed with a single to centre field to score Crook with
the winning run.

Monday September 16
The Brett Contracting Cowboys opened the scoring in the top of the
first inning. Designated player Jeff Hannah led off the game with
a single. Hannah was erased on a fielder's choice by centre fielder Tim
Murphy. Left fielder Pat Severin followed with a double to right
centre field to score Murphy. Moscow responded in the bottom of the
inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Designated player Andrew Plumley led off the inning with a bunt single
and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by right fielder Jason Sutton.
After second baseman Joe Reid was hit by a pitch and pitcher Corey Brooks
reached base on a fielder choice to load the bases, catcher Chris Reid
drew a walk to drive in Plumley. First baseman Mike Finn then followed
with an RBI
ground out to give Moscow the lead. Moscow extended the lead
to 3-1 when third baseman Chris Hartwick scored on a ground out by Sutton.
Hartwick had started the inning with a single. The Cowboys rallied
to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning. Right fielder Adam
Lake hit a one out single to start the rally. Sean Pope came on as
a pinch runner and moved to second an out later on an infield hit by Murphy.
Severin then followed with a double down the left field line that scored
both runners. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Plumley reached
base on an one out error and moved to third base one out later on a single
by Joe Reid. Brooks was intentionally walked to load the bases and
Chris Reid followed with a walk to score the winning run.

Tuesday September 17
The final and deciding game of the series between Moscow and the Brett
Contracting Cowboys was played on Tuesday evening in Moscow. Moscow
jumped out to 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when left fielder
Andrew Plumley hit a short fly ball to centre field that Cowboy's centre
fielder Tim Murphy could not hold onto after a diving attempt. First
baseman Jason Sutton followed the double with a slap single just over the
head of the second baseman to score Plumley. The Cowboys had runners
on first and third with no one out in the second after catcher Craig Pearce
and left fielder Pat Severin hit singles. However, Moscow pitcher
Mike Finn was able to retire the next three batters. In the sixth
inning, the Cowboy's defense
started to take over. Moscow third baseman Chris Hartwick was
hit by a pitch to start the inning. Right fielder Mike Yeomans followed
with a double to right field. Severin fielded the ball off the fence
and hit the cut off man, shortstop Doug Kane. Kane turned and fired
to Pearce to retire Hartwick and record the first out of the inning.
Cowboy's pitcher Scott Nichol was able to strike out the next two batters
to end the inning. In the top of the seventh, the Cowboys tied the
score when third baseman Ken Crook hit a line drive homerun to right centre
field with two out. In the bottom of the seventh, right fielder Adam
Lake caught a ball a the fence off of the bat of Joe Reid.
In the top of the eighh, the Cowboys were able to get the lead off runner
on base as designated player Jeff Hannah singled up the middle, however
they were unable to score. In the bottom of the eighth, Severin made
a lunging catch on a ball hit to the left centre field fence off of the
bat of Mike Finn. The Cowboys scored the go ahead run in the top
of the ninth inning. Severin led off with a single and moved to second
on a passed ball. Corey Brooks came in to replace Finn after the
single to Severin and retired the first batter. After a walk and
a pop out left
runners on first and second with two out, second baseman Terry Redden
hit a single between the third baseman and the shortstop to score Severin.
In the bottom of the inning, Yeomans led off with a deep blast to centre
field that was caught by Murphy as he jumped up into the fence. The
second out was recorded on a long, high fly out to left field. Plumley
reached base with two outs as he laid down a bunt toward third base that
hugged the baseline. Sutton was the next hitter and he hit a hard line
drive that was caught by Redden at second base to end the game.
