GAME #2
Wednesday, August 21
Designated player Andrew Plumley led off the game with a solo homerun
off of Sydenham starter Dan Hughson to give Moscow an early lead that they
would not give up. In the second inning, Moscow scored twice, once
on an RBI ground out by catcher Ryan Remmington and once on a solo homerun
by left fielder Mike Yeomans. After retiring the first two batters
of the third inning, and then walking the next two, Hughson was relieved
by Dave Hannah. Pitcher Corey Brooks greeted him with a two RBI single
to left field to make the score 5-0. Moscow added three more runs
in the fourth inning with the help of a two run homerun by centre
fielder Colin Tryon. Nick Hogan replaced Hannah to start the fifth
inning and gave up two runs in the fifth, one run on a homerun by third
baseman Jason Sutton in the sixth and five runs in the seventh. Moscow
had some hard hit balls, but Sydenham's defense was very shaky all night.
Sydenham scored solo runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Third
baseman Trevor Corkey hit a solo homerun in the fifth and first baseman
Paul Hannah delivered an RBI single in the seventh.

Monday, August 19
Game #1 of the best of 5 series was played last night at the Township

when catcher Craig Pearce hit a two out two run single up the middle to
score centre fielder Jeff Hannah, who had singled to lead off the game,
and shortstop Doug Kane, who had been hit by a pitch. Sunbury responded
in the bottom of the fourth inning, stringing together three singles to
start the inning. Catcher Cory Gee drove in Sunbury's first run with
a single up the middle that scored left fielder Terry Orr. The Cowboys
answered in the top of the fifth inning, scoring three times to take a
5-1 lead. Hannah led off the inning with a double and was moved
to third on a sacrifice bunt by right fielder Tim Murphy. Kane then

The Cowboys extended the lead in the sixth inning
with a lead off homerun by pitcher Mike Halligan. Sunbury rallied
once again in the bottom of the sixth inning, cutting the lead to 6-4 on
a three run homerun by third baseman Corey Fowler. Orr reached base
on a single and second baseman Darryl Barker reached base on an error before
scoring on the homerun. In the bottom of the seventh inning, shortstop

GAME #2
Thursday, August 22
Game two of the series between Sunbury Kim's Variety and the Brett
Contracting Cowboys was played at the Youth Field diamond in Inverary on
a
cold and damp evening. The Cowboys opened the scoring in the second
inning. Left fielder Pat Severin led off the inning with a single left
field and first baseman Kevin Buchan followed with a single to centre.
One out later,
designated player Brandon Burtch hit a line drive homerun over the
left field fence to give the Cowboys a 3-0 lead. The Cowboys added
three more runs in the fourth inning. Buchan led off the inning with
a single and moved to third base when the sacrifice bunt attempt by third
baseman Ken Crook was thrown into right field. Burtch then delivered
a sacrifice fly to
score Buchan. Right fielder Adam Lake then singled to centre
field, putting runners on first and third. Centre fielder Jeff Hannah
grounded out to second base to score Crook. Second baseman Tim Murphy
then doubled to centre field to score Lake and give the Cowboys a 6-0 lead
after four innings. The Cowboys extended their lead in the fifth
on an RBI single by
Buchan that scored catcher Craig Pearce, who had singled. Sunbury
started their comeback in the sixth inning against Cowboy's pitcher Scott
Nichol. After giving up a lead off walk to centre fielder Paul Tolles,

bats early, trying to end the series. In the first inning, right
fielder Tim Murphy hit a one out single to centre field to start the Cowboy

GAME #5
Thursday, August 29
The final and deciding game of the first round series played between
the Brett Contracting Cowboys and Sunbury Kim's Variety took place at the
Township Diamond in Inverary. As it should be in a final game of
a series, both team's defense and pitching were at the top of their games.
In the first inning, after centre fielder Jeff Hannah had led off the game
with a
walk, Sunbury was able to turn a double play on an attempted sacrifice
bunt. In the Sunbury half of the inning, catcher Cory Gee hit a deep blast
to centre field that Hannah was able to track down and catch as the ball
was about to clear the fence. The Cowboys opened the scoring in the
second inning when third baseman Ken Crook hit a two out solo line drive
homerun to
right field. Sunbury attempted to rally in the second after lead
off hitter, shortstop Darryl Barker, began the inning with a double.
Barker was stranded on third base. After a contraversial double play
call in the top half of the third inning, Cowboys pitcher Scott Nichol
struck out the side in the bottom of the inning. Sunbury once again
rallied in the fourth inning, having their best scoring chance of the night.
After a lead off double by left fielder Terry Orr, Gee hit a deep ball
to left centre field.
The ball was misplayed by the left fielder, however, Hannah was able
to pick up the ball and fire a strike to cut off man, shortstop Doug Kane.
Kane followed with a perfect relay throw to the plate to record the first
out of the inning. After a fly ball to centre and a walk left
runners at first and third with two out, Crook made a lunging catch on
a line drive to third by pitcher Craig Hollingsworth for the final out
of the inning. Crook led off the Cowboys fifth inning with a hard
hit ball the took a bad hop off of the second baseman. After a sacrifice
bunt by left fielder Adam Lake moved Crook to second, designated player
Mike Halligan hit a single to left field to score Crook and make the score
2-0. A defensive move that put Pat Severin in left field, moving
him from right field, paid immediate dividends as Severin made a diving
catch on the first ball hit in the fifth inning off the bat of right fielder
Jason Norman. Again in the sixth the defensive changes paid off as
right fielder Tim Murphy, who had started at second base, made two key
defensive plays. Murphy made a diving catch on a back field hit off
the bat of Gee for the second out of the sixth inning and then recorded
the final out of the inning after a long run on a short fly ball hit behind
second base. In the seventh inning, the Cowboys added another run
to make the score 3-0. Crook singled to right field with one out
and moved to third base one out later on a single to centre by Halligan.
Hannah followed with a hard hit ball that went off of the glove of the
first baseman, scoring Crook. Sunbury was able to bring the tying
run to the plate in the bottom of the inning, but they were unable to make
the comeback. Designated player Dave Tolles led off the inning by
reaching base on a ball that was misplayed by the first baseman.
Matt Herrington was entered into the game as a pitch runner and stole second
base. After a groundout to shortstop and a walk put runners at first
and second with one out, Nichol was able to strike out the next batter.
The game ended on a passed ball when catcher Craig Pearce was able to throw
Herrington out at third base.
