In Loughborough Fastball League action from Monday evening the Kingston Cowboys edged Sunbury 7-6 in a back and forth entertaining game.  Sunbury opened the scoring in the first inning when Jason Moodie singled to right field and proceeded to steal second base.  One out later, Trevor Corkey beat out an infield single with Moodie advancing to third.  On the play the throw to first was wild, allowing Moodie to score the first run of the game.  With two outs in the inning Jason Norman hit a line drive double down the right field line scoring Corkey from first base.  The Cowboys answered in the bottom of the first with one run on an RBI single to left field by Jon Swaine that scored Tim Murphy, who had reached third base when a ball was misplayed in right field.  After Cowboys starting pitcher Ryan Sharpe retired Sunbury in order in the second inning, Jamie Purdon delivered a two run line drive homerun to right field.  Doug Kane reached on a walk and trotted around to score on the homerun.  The score remained unchanged until the top of the fifth inning when Corey Fowler hit a towering homerun to left field with two out to even the score at three.  Corkey followed with his third hit of the game and proceeded to steal second base.  Sunbury pitcher Kurt Clark then followed with an RBI single up the middle to give Sunbury a 4-3 lead.  Chris Switzer came on in relief to start the top of the sixth inning and worked out of a bases loaded jam to keep the game within one run.  In the bottom of the inning, Swaine hit a one out single and moved to third on a double to right field by Switzer.  Sharpe then singled to centre field to score Swaine with the tying run.  Sunbury rallied in the top of the seventh inning two take a 6-4 lead when Dan Irwin hit a two out two run bloop single to left centre field.  Corkey, who reached on a walk, and Clark who reached on a fielder's choice, both scored on the play.  David Purdon started the Cowboys comeback with a one out single in the seventh.  Jeff Hannah then followed with a line drive homerun to centrefield to tie the game at 6.  Murphy kept the momentum going by singling up the middle and moving to third base on two passed balls.  Switzer then ended the game with a single to right centre field that scored Murphy to give the Cowboys a 7-6 victory.  The win improves the Cowboys record to 2-0 and the loss drops Sunbury to 1-2.

In a game played on Tuesday evening in Enterprise, the Cowboys won their third game to start the season cruising to a 10-4 victory over Enterprise.  The Cowboys tagged Enterprise starting pitcher Kevin Brown for 10 runs (8 earned) over 5 innings on 10 hits.  Two walks to lead off the second inning led to the first run of the game.  Chris Switzer and Ryan Sharpe both walked and moved up to third and second respectively on a passed ball.  Doug Kane then hit a ground out to third base to score Switzer.  In the third inning David Purdon led off with a bunt single and stole second base.  Tim Murphy followed one out later with an RBI single to right field.  Jon Swaine scored later in the inning, after reaching base on a fielding error, on a throwing error by the third baseman.  The Cowboys had five hits in the fourth inning and scored four runs.  Jamie Purdon tripled to right field to start the rally and scored on an RBI single to left by Paul Hannah.  Geoff Crawford entered the game as a pinch runner and two outs later scored on a triple to right field by Murphy.  Swaine drove in a run with a single and then scored on a double by Switzer.  In the top of the fifth inning the Cowboys scored 3 more times to make the score 10-0.  After being hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, Kane scored on an single by Jamie Purdon.  Crawford reached base on an error and both runners scored on a double to left centre field by Jeff Hannah.  Enterprise rallied in the home half of the fifth inning scoring four times.  John Hayes, who reached base on a walk, scored on a double to left centre by Darren Crowder.  Andy Brown followed with a bloop double down the left field line and Kevin Brown finished the scoring with a deep homerun to centrefield.  Ryan Sharpe came on to relieve starter Jon Swaine and completed the game without giving up any more runs.

 The Jr express had to send three pitchers to the mound but prevailed 9 to 6. The merchants from Battersea didn’t have their “A:” game going defensively and the Express men scored early and often. Battersea outhit the express 8 to 7.

Jordan Macdonald started the game for the express and gave up 4 runs through 4 innings of work. He helped his own cause scoring two runs. Andy Madden came on in relief and struggled with control giving up 2 more runs in the sixth on three walks and a single. Tim Keller shut the door through with 4 strike outs through the last 6 batters. Ben tee lead the way with a 3 -4 night and scored two runs. Chris Lewis helped the express regain the lead in the 4th when he came all the way around on a misplayed hit to the fence, Kyle Mack drove in two more with a single to put the Express back on top 6 -4. Mike Roantree helped to seal the deal in the 6th with a lead off single and come around to score. He was followed buy Nate Moffat and Ryan Heyman to go up 9 – 6.

Corey Mallen was 2 for 4 and scored, Adam Knight 1 for 3 had two rbi’s and Scott Corcoran 1 for 2 scored twice for the Merchants. Mike Paul took the loss.

Next action is 8:30 Thursday at Napanee when the Jrs. will meet the Midgets.
