In an extreme contrast to the 1-0 score of Game #1, both team's offenses fired on all guns for Game #2.  The Cowboys opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a two out rally.  Jon Swaine and Ryan Sharpe singled to put runners at the corners for Doug Kane, who single to left field to plate Swaine.  Sydenham tied the game in the home half of the inning as Blake Orr hit a monster homerun to centre field.  The Cowboys responded in the second inning when Craig Pearce led off the inning with an opposite field homerun and added a second run in the inning when Jeff Hannah singled home Jamie Purdon who had doubled.  Sydenham closed the gap in the fourth inning on a two out RBI single by Terry Redden that scored Chris Carroll, who was on base with one of his four hits on the evening.  The fifth inning saw the Cowboys knock out starter Mike Halligan, who was replaced by Scott Nichol.  Pinch hitter David Purdon hit a grand slam homerun to centre field to give the Cowboys a 7-2 lead.  Again Sydenham responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring three times.  Hughie Vankoughnett and Blake Orr started the inning with back-to-back singles.  Vankoughnett scored on a ground out by Greg Orr for the first run of the inning and Joe Bowes drove home two runs with a single up the middle that plated Orr and Carroll.  The lead was pushed to a three run cushion in the sixth inning when Jeff Hannah hit a solo home run to right field to make the score 8-5.  Blake Orr would come in to pitch for Sydenham after that and he shut down the Cowboys from that point on. Swaine came in to throw the final two innings for the Cowboys and Sydenham had the tying run at the plate in the seventh however the game ended when a base runner interfered with a fielder's opportunity to make the play, causing the final out.

Cowboys lead series 2-0

Game Three: Sydenham 5 Kingston Can Wealth Financial Services Cowboys 4

News

Players from the North Fred Kings and the Kingston Cowboys combined to compete in the ISC II Worlds in Kitchener from August 12-19.  The team unfortunately did not perform to its potential, however they were involved in 4 close games, going 1 and 3.

This year's playoffs will be set up a bit differently than last year.  This year, of the 8 teams, only 6 will make the playoffs and first and second place will receive a bye into the 2nd round.  It will be 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5 in the first round, in a quick best 2 of 3.  Then the lowest seed to go through will play the first ranked team and the second ranked team will play the other team in best 3 of 5 series.  The final round will see the two teams play a best 4 of 7 for the title.
