It was opening night for the 44th year of Loughborough Fastball League action last night and it was the first LFL game for the Darren Green's Sandblasting team, who have joined the league after playing for several seasons in the Belleville league.  It didn't take long for DGS to score, crossing the plate twice in the first inning.  Centre fielder Chris Hartwick led off the game with a single to right field and scored one out later on an RBI triple to left centre field by first baseman Mike Finn.  Starting pitcher Dale Dowdall then hit a double to score Finn off of Cowboys starting pitcher Ryan Sharpe.  Cowboys left fielder Brandon Burtch made a diving catch on a foul ball to left field to help end the DGS rally.  The Cowboys answered in the home half of the inning, scoring once without the benefit of a hit.  Centre fielder Jeff Hannah led off the inning with a walk and then stole second base.  After a walk to right fielder Tim Murphy, Hannah stole third and Murphy stole second.  Catcher Craig Pearce delivered a sacrifice fly to left field to score Hannah and put the Cowboys on the board.  DGS put the pressure on in the second inning as second baseman Kevin French doubled to right field to start the innning and moved to third on a passed ball.  After a walk to left fielder Murray Vankaughnet and a strikeout, Hartwick hit a ground ball to shortstop Doug Kane who started an inning ending double play.  In the bottom of the third the Cowboys used four hits  to score three runs to take a 4-2 lead.  Hannah led off the inning with a bunt single and moved to third when Murphy hit a single down the third base line.  Murphy advanced to second on the throw to third base and both runners scored on a single by second baseman Darryl Barker.  An RBI single by Burtch finished the scoring in the third.  The Cowboys added to more runs in the fourth inning.  Hannah reached base on a one out walk and then stole second base.  Barker followed with a two out single to score Hannah.  After a passed ball moved Barker to second, Pearce followed with an RBI single to end the scoring for the Cowboys.  In the top of the sixth inning, DGS scored a run off of relief pitcher Adam Garrison, who had come in to pitch in the fifth inning.  After a lead off walk to French, Hartwick hit a two out double to right centre field.  In the top of the seventh, Finn, who had moved to pitcher in the fifth inning for DGS, homered to left centre field to make the score 6-4.  The next two batters walked before Hannah recorded the first out of the inning fielding a hard hit line drive in centre.  After a walk loaded the bases the Cowboys were able to escape the situation when Hannah fielded a fly ball to centre and then was able to throw out one of the runners after some base running confusion.
