HOSHINSOOL

                    Hoshinsool is the Korean term for self-defense. 

  • HO: means "protection", "defense"

  • SIN: means "body".

  • SUL: means "art".

Self-Defense is literally that, defending oneself. You will use all your training from the basics to the advanced. You want to escape harm to yourself and you want to incapacitate your opponent as quickly as possible. Practice the techniques slowly and repeat often until it becomes natural or second nature.

1.      A: Both Hands on the shoulders.

D: Step back in a short walking stance > Bring the hands outside and strike the  top of the arms, just below the elbows. (Feet and hands moving at the same time.)> Right Hook punch to the face. > Left Hook punch to the face.

2.      A: Both Hands on the shoulders.

D: Step back in a short walking stance > Bring the hands inside and out. (Feet and hands moving at the same time.)> Single punch to the mid-section or groin.

3.      A: Both Hands on the shoulders.

D: With the right hand, grab the opponent's left hand on your left shoulder.> With the thumb on the back of the hand and 3 fingers below the wrist.> Twist the hand in a clockwise direction and down. Move the hand in the direction of the opponent.

4.      A: Both Hands on the shoulders.

D: Using you right hand, grab opponent's right hand on you left shoulder. > With your thumb on the back of the hand and 3 fingers below the wrist, pull the hand off the shoulder. > Use you left hand apply pressure to the back of the elbow as opponents hand is lifted off the shoulder.> Rotate the opponent's hand so the fingers point to the back of the elbow and continue to apply pressure to the back of the elbow. (This technique can be done with either right or left hand.) 

5.      A: Right hand stabbing action.

D: Step to the left. > Push the stabbing hand with the left hand as you move, to redirect the punch. > Short low side kick to the knee area (Side or Back of knee).

6.      A: Right hand stabbing action.

D: Step to the left. > Push the stabbing hand with the left hand as you move, to redirect the punch. > Short low side kick to the knee area (Side or Back of knee).> Jumping back-fist to the head.

7.      A: Right hand overhead stabbing action.

D: Step back with right foot and attack the stabbing hand with a left crescent kick. > Right roundhouse kick to the mid-section or head.

8.       A: Hand reaching for a weapon in the belt

           D: Left hand blocking the withdraw of the weapon >  Right hand 2 finger strike to eyes.

 

9.       A: Right punch to chest

D: Step to left 45 deg., pushing blocking with left hand > wrap left hand around     punching hand, turning clockwise > right elbow strike to back of head.

10.    A: Hand reaching for a weapon in the belt

         D: Left hand blocking the withdraw of the weapon >  Right hand grabbing for the throat

 

11.  A: Step forward with right foot, stabbing straight with right hand.

        D: Step forward with left foot, blocking with left knife-hand, followed by palm strike to the face with the right hand.

 

12.    A: Step forward with right foot, stabbing straight with right hand.

          D: Step back with left foot, block with right hand using knife-hand; strike kidney area with right elbow.

 

13.    A: Right hand overhead stabbing action.

D: Step with the left foot forward, high block with right hand; grab the stabbing hand and swing down in a     clockwise direction to move it out of the way, forcing the attacker downwards to the ground; right roundhouse kick to the chest.
