I read this book because William Faulkner said it was “One of the most true and moving novels of my time.” I really hope not. The End of the Affair is about faith and love, marriage and adultery, jealousy and despair. Painful as it is, the story is unquestionably beautiful. The themes are discussed in a way I’ve never contemplated, yet one has the impression that the story is as old as love itself. That said, I choose to hope that most people will never experience life as it is known by Maurice Bendrix – but most people should read this book.
