THE WORLD OF GOR

The word "Gor" comes from a collection of science fiction novels written by John Norman, Doctor of Philosophy. The series of 25 books were introduced to readers from 1960-1988.
Planet Gor refers to a counter-earth, a world similar to ours in appearance and population but with a very different social, economic, technilogical and justice system. In some ways it can be seen as primitive and yet in others, very advanced to our own world.
Mr. Norman's writings have been considered somewhat controversial because of the practice of institutional slavery. But his novels were used for philosophical and socialogical expression of his belief that there is an unleashed natural instinct, a forgotten nature, a lost part of ourselves ignored during the evalution of man. The purpose of these novels is to connect to that primal part within ourselves.
Each novel's storyline is based on a society of beliefs originated from Pythagorus of the Greek isle of Samos in 580 B.C.
Gor is a place where men are not ashamed to be men and women are not denied being women, where masculinity is praised and feminity embraced. A place where the marvels of technology has not replaced the greatness of man, as he grows in accordance to nature not in contradiction to it. It is a life founded on the foundation of trust, honour and integrity.
John Norman believed that the modern world is much too complex. The roles and responsibilities of men and women have become blurred. He imagined a world more simplistic in its ideas. A place where slaves enjoy and pride themselves in knowing the only expectation of her is to please her Master. The owners of the slaves are not cruel men or women and punishment is never given in pleasure. Masters are responsible to see that all slaves in their household are fed, clothed and generally content. To own a happy, well behaved and properly trained slave gives a great sense of pride to a Master.
It was not uncommon for a Master's house to contain several slaves as it was believed that it established an enviroment of healthy competition and ensure that all girls stayed at their best.
Althought Mr. Norman has had many of his books sensored and even banned over the year, the popularity and demand for his writings brought a 26th book, Witness of Gor published in August 2002.
