Subspace
by: enslaved heart

Ask 10 different submissives to describe their experience of subspace and you will get 10 different answers. What a sub feels and how they get there is as individual as they are.

It can be difficult to describe without experiencing it but there are several common characteristics that seem to be shared by those who have enjoyed the experience.

There is a calmness, a state where the mind and body are at total peace. The ability to block out the surroundings and enjoy a deep and tranquil state, no pain, no fear, no resistance. Emotions have become to intense and the body so reactive that they mind is pushed into a primal state and empties itself of all expectations and responsibilities. They become possessed by the Dominant's total control and ulimate power of his will over them. Although this is the ultimate plateau of power exchange, it is also a dangerous one as the sub has let go of all boundaries and limits. They can push themself no deeper and have surrendered to the point where there is no longer any ability of independent thought.

What a submissive experiences when in subspace is unique as it becomes a spiritual oasis only they can create. Some report it is a place they imagine, somewhere they connect to being safe and tranquil such as laying on a cloud or drifting upon a slow moving river. Others admit they find themself having an out of body experience as they float in the room and can see what is happening but are not physically connected to their body. Still others will tell you they have no visual connection, they reach an inner peace, a spiritual plain.

The reason these things happen have been explained scienfically by identifying the effect that certain hormones called endorphines, have on the body and mind when released into the blood stream while a person engages in certain physical and emotional stimulation. This chemical reaction occurs as a response to pain, fear and physical intensity. The endorphines trigger reactions that open the door to enter into this plateau.

This is not to say that subspace can be only achieved threw physical manipulation. Some submissives can also experience the same reaction by mental stimulation. By being trained to do so, they can trigger a deep emotional intensity that their body will emit the same endorphines.
Do all subs enter subspace everytime? No. It takes the right circumstances and deep trust before a sub can allow themself to let go and drift into that special and treasured place. And once they do, much care and caution must be taken to ensure they remain safe and secure. When the time comes to be brought down, it must be done slowly and with physical and emotional support. Soft touching and reassuring words will fill up the empty space they feel as they let go to return to reality. Aftercare is important to ensure it is a special experience for both Dominant and submissive.

On a positive note, once a sub has achieved subspace and they identify the path and the direction that leads them to where they long to be, it becomes easier and so much a desireable experience. It is the reward of intense trust, the will to submit and ability to control.
