Group B Strep is the leading infectious killer of newborns. Group B Strep bacteria is a natural occuring bacteria that exists in the intestinal tract of approximately 30% of the population. GBS colonization is usually not a problem for healthy adults, but babies who may ingest the bacteria during labour and delivery can become very ill, resulting in potential long term permanent disabilities or death.
