- "Rain, Mud and Swamps"*****
History - by: Gary L. Scheel
This is the history of the 31st Missouri Infantry Regiment & Gary spent over 6 years researching the data for this book. Believe me, it certainly shows. He includes personal diary entries & letters from various members of the unit, plus official correspondence as well. This is a very good reference book, to have on hand, when looking up areas that the unit were in & members. (He includes a list of all of the men that he could find, that were in the unit) As the war progressed, the 31st became consolidated with the 32nd, due to the death & wounding of the men from the 31st. If you are into Missouri Units, it is a must have.

- "When The Smoke Settled (Civil War Soldiers Stories)"*****
History - by: The Iron County Genealogy Society (Sharon Hackworth Director of Publications)
This is the book that was
mentioned on our Civil War list, asking for submissions of soldiers who were
involved in Iron County Mo actions or associations. Jared Billings and myself
(among others) submitted information to this publication. It has listings of
soldiers of the 47th Missouri Infantry, as well as others. A good source of
information, for people looking for anyone who might have been involved in
Iron County. There are many more that have not yet been listed, but it is a good start, perhaps if it sells well, they will do a follow up.
Soft Cover, 93 pages,

Publisher: The Iron County Genealogy Society,
Cost: It runs $12.00 and will be available at the Pilot Knob Re-enactment this weekend 22-23rd of September, or it can be ordered through the Iron County Genealogy Society, P.O. Box 343, Arcadia, MO 63621. plus shipping.

"Confederates In The Attic: Dispatches From The Unfinished Civil war"*****
History - by: Tony Horwitz.
Mr. Horwitz decides to trace Civil War events and winds up going through ten states. He becomes involved with many fascinating characters and discovers lots of lost and forgotten or neglected information about the war. I really enjoyed this book, it was a very comfortable and easy read. It raises many questions about the Country's perception of the war and the current interpretation of those who celebrate the events tied to it.

excellent accounts of certain unknown events.
