- "The Man Who Killed Lincoln" *****

An excellent picture of John Wilkes Booth and the events concerning the Lincoln assassination. Philip weaves his story with some invented characters, but in the afterword, explains why and poses very interesting questions concerning the event. This is worth finding and reading!

- "Washington D.C. In Lincoln's Time" *****
History - By: Noah Brooks, Edited by: Herbert Mitgang.
Noah Brooks was a reporter who was born in Maine in 1830. He first became acquainted with Lincoln around 1848, when he joined a Boston paper. He would later cover the famous debates in Illinois & eventually became good friends with Lincoln, covering his tenure at the White House. Brooks would be the President's favorite correspondent & consequently became privy to intimate discussions & events that surrounded Lincoln. This book is a good insight to the life of Lincoln during the Washington years, but has a lot of knowledgeable information on those who made up the power structure of Washington during the war years. A pretty good read.
