Bare Facts: Female ~ Born est.1971 ~ Died 1997 ~ Mother Saddle ~ Father Unknown ~ Children Nodales, Surge ~ ID Distinctive shark-like fin with thick base

Sharky was born in 1971, to Saddle (A14). She was Saddle's third known calf; Saddle was around 24 at the time.
Sharky was instantly recognizable, thanks to her unusual fin. The thick, short, sharp fin strongly resembled a shark's-hence the name.
Sharky was a very bold and very outgoing whale. Saddle was very laid-back and let her children play in the wake of boats, and Sharky loved to jump and frolic in the waves. She was very curious and had fun with everything.
In 1979, Saddle had her last calf, a male named A15. Sharky had a playmate!
For the next seven years, Sharky traveled with her mom and brother. She thrilled whale-watchers and proved a delight for everyone to watch. Many orca movies made at that time star Sharky, simply because she was so outgoing.
In 1986, at the age of 15, Sharky had her first calf, Nodales. Excitable as she was, Sharky proved to be a good mother-and a playful one!
Then in 1991, the family was dealt a hard blow when both Saddle and Sharky's brother died. Suddenly, Sharky lost the family she'd had her entire life, AND she'd become matriarch!
In 1994, Sharky had her second and last calf, Surge. For the next three years, the three traveled together and delighted everyone with their antics.
Then in 1997, at the young age of 26, Sharky suddenly and unexpectedly passed away herself, leaving two young orcas, one 11 and the other 3.
This rambunctious and well-loved whale may have passed away, but she lives on in her two children, and the movies that she loved to star in.
