Bare Facts: Unknown ~ Born est.1964 ~ Died 1969 ~ Mother Saddle ~ Father Unknown ~ Children None ~ ID Unknown

A17 was born around 1964, to Saddle, when Saddle was 17. He/she was Saddle's first known calf.
On December 12, 1969, at around the age of five, A17 was captured, along with mom Saddle, new sister A18, and the rest of their extended family.
Saddle was released, but A17 and A18 were taken into captivity.
And this is where it gets confusing. We're not entirely sure which marine park, or what name, A17 got.
Judging by the length and weight of that age group (5 years old), A17 could have been three whales taken into captivity that December night.
Our first choice is an unnamed male who went to Marineland California. If A17 was that male, then he went with his sister A18, who was probably a whale named Patches. At Marineland California, 'A17' lived without a name for 2 and a half years, before dying in May 1972 of pneumonia.
Our second choice is a whale named Nepo. Nepo was taken to Marineworld California with another whale from that pod, where he lived for 10 and half years with the female Yaka, until dying in July 1980 of pneumonia.
And speaking of Yaka, she's our last choice. Yaka is a bit of a stretch, because it is believed that her mother was Licka (A8). However, it's possible. Yaka was the longest-lived of all three choices. She also went to Marineworld California, where she lived for 28 years, first with Nepo, then with a male named Vigga. On October 29, 1997, she passed away as well.
