This one point, between the two families, was to become an issue of contention in modern times. As explained by Bain; the MacLennans became a distinct entity when; "In the 15th century a feud between the Logans and the Frasers . . . in which Gilligorm, the chief of
the Logans, was killed and his widow carried off by the victors"(pg. 138).
It is at this point in history that there seems to be no argument about the
MacLennans being separate from the Logans as a child was born from the
widow.
Bain tells the reader that this child was the, ". .
.posthumous son of Gilligorm"(pg. 138). Thus, we are led to believe the
child was the legitimate heir to the head/chief of the Clan. The child,
who was deformed at birth and raised by the monks at Beauly, was named,
Crotair MacGilligorm - Crotair; the son of Gilligorm. At the time of
manhood, Crotair, ". . . took Holy Orders at Kilmour in Sleat and in
Kilchrinin, Glenelg"(pg. 138). Crotair had children (like most clergy of the
time) and these descendants came to be known as Siol Fhinnein or MacLennans. So the story begins!
